2020 Cañada Student Athlete of the Year Award Winners
Jumikal Williams-Choa, Men’s Basketball 2020
Jumikal Williams-Choa is my nomination for Cañada Student Athlete of the Year. Jumikal graduated this Spring, Magna Cum Laude with a 3.69 cumulative GPA. While at Cañada, Jumikal achieved the Dean’s List in four semesters (Fall 2018, Summer 2019, Fall 2019, Spring 2020). He was also a guest speaker at the College President’s Luncheon back in the fall where he spoke about his achievements and experience while at Cañada. Jumikal played 2-years on the Cañada Men’s Basketball Team. As a freshman, he played an integral role on the 22-8 Sweet Sixteen team. He was tasked to be the primary ball handler while also guarding the opposing team’s best player. As a Sophomore, he was nominated by the Coaches to be a Captain of the team. During this season, he doubled his production in all categories: 9.8 points per game, 6.3 assist per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, and 1.5 steals per game. He finished the season second in the conference in assist per game, but fourth in the state overall. Jumikal is a very special kid. He is one that teachers, coaches and players enjoy being around. He is a great teammate and leader both on and off the court. He goes above and beyond the call of duty. Jumikal devotes just as much time and energy in the classroom as he does in the gym. We are proud to say that Jumikal will be continuing his education this Fall at the University of San Francisco in pursuit of his Bachelor of Science in Kinesiology
