REDWOOD CITY – The Cañada College women's soccer team continues to position itself for postseason. On Tuesday, facing Coast Conference North Division-leader City College of San Francisco at home, the Colts earned a 1-1 draw against a tough opponent.
The Colts played the role of spoiler as the tie might have ruined CCSF's shot at an outright conference title.
San Francisco scored first, getting a goal in the 35th minute to go into the break with a 1-0 lead. But the Colts came through on one of their few scoring chances in the second. Rosa Churape knocked in her team-leading 13th goal of the season off the assist from Ryann Leyte-Vidal in the 48th minute for the equalizer.
Goalkeeper Jianna Nabung had a big game for the Colts as she recorded 9 saves.
With the tie, Cañada improved to 10-6-3 overall and 5-4-1 in Coast Conference play with one game remaining in the regular season. The Colts currently sit in third place in the Coast South Division standings.
Cañada hosts Gavilan College on Friday at 3 p.m. The Colts will look to finish strong in hopes of earning an at-large bid into the upcoming Northern California Regional Playoffs.
