2017 Cañada Student Athlete of the Year Award Winners
Joelle Huelse - Women’s Tennis
For the past two years, Joele has been recognized by coaches and fellow competitors as one of the best players in the State of California. She won the Inter Collegiate Tennis in doubles two years running and qualified as a singles player as well. Joelle also won almost all of her matches as a singles player in the conference the past two years and was honored as All Coast Conference both years. She was undefeated as a doubles player during conference play with two different partners her freshmen and sophomore years. In fact, with both partners she reached the semi finals of the State Tournament in Ojai, Ca. during her reign at Cañada College.
She has been able to keep her GPA over a 3.0 while training hard for tennis. She is a respected teammate and has been a pleasure to coach.
Davis Kimble - Men's Basketball
Davis was the key component for the Men's Basketball program returning to the State Finals. He was a team captain and team leader who kept the group together. He is a young man who since being at Cañada, has carried a grade-point average of 3.0. He will graduate with his Associate of Arts degree and as of spring 2017 is in conversation with D2 and NAIA schools. His list of accomplishments at Cañada are as followed: Colt Award Winner, which is what the team believes embodies a Colt (Inspiration, Hard Work, Dedication), 1 Team All-Conference Player, with statistics of 11.4 PPG, 4.5 RPG, 3.9 APG with a 2 to 1 assist to turnover ration.
