REDWOOD CITY – In a wild finish, Cañada College and West Valley College played to a 2-2 tie on Friday afternoon with both teams scoring over the final moments of their Coast Conference opener.
The two squads were tied at 1-1 at halftime as Chris Lopez scored for the Colts off the assist from Isaiah Flor in the 42nd minute.
The game remained locked up at 1-1 all the way until the 89th minute when West Valley's Pavan Nawbatt scored what appeared to the game-winner in the 89th minute.
But on the ensuing kickoff, the Colts were able to send the ball downfield and scored the equalizer just moments before the final whistle in the 90th minute. Mikel Gonzalez played hero by scoring the goal off the assist from Caleb Rosas.
Luis Evangelista recorded 4 saves in goal for the Colts.
Cañada is unbeaten over its last three games and moved to 3-1-3 overall and 0-0-1 in Coast Conference play. The Colts are back in action on Tuesday (Sep. 30) when they travel to Evergreen Valley College for a conference game.
