Colts knock off No. 4 Chabot, 76-72 in overtime
HAYWARD – Luca Joe Ewelt posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to help lead Cañada College to its biggest win of the season, a 76-72 upset victory in overtime at No. 4 state-ranked Chabot College on Friday.
Cañada erased a late deficit in overtime to pull out the win. Chabot opened the extra period with an 5-0 run to go out in front 69-64. But from that point, it was all Cañada.
The Colts came right back with an 11-0 run to take back the lead for good. A goaltending call at the 2:46 mark after a layup by Brylan Lundy allowed Cañada to take the lead. That was followed by a big block from Sean Crowley and a three-pointer from Ewelt with 2 minutes left that shifted momentum completely towards the Colts. Cañada limited Chabot to just 8 points in overtime.
Crowley posted 12 points, 6 rebounds, and 3 blocks while Lundy had 11 points, 5 boards, and 2 assists. Daylen Fleming totaled 9 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists, and Jovan Abregana contributed 9 points.
With the win, Cañada improved to 11-12 overall and 2-5 in the Coast Conference North Division. The Colts are back in action on Wednesday (Feb. 7) when they host College of San Mateo in a Coast North game.
