Arce, Almaguer Lead Colts In Defeat Over Shasta
Sophomore 2B Chris Arce collected three hits in four at bats, as the Cañada Colts defeated the Shasta Knights 14-0 on Saturday morning. Arce doubled in the second inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the third inning.
Cañada got on the board in the bottom of the first after Shasta College committed an error, and Freshman 1B Cole Leschak grounded out, each scoring one run.
The Colts then scored nine runs in the second inning on the way to victory. Arce doubled, scoring three runs, Sophomore SS Kyler Bittner singled, scoring one run, Leschak singled, scoring one run, Freshman DH Patrick Sanchez singled, scoring one run, Freshman 3B Tim Selway singled, scoring one run, and an error scored two runs.
The Cañada offense was not done as they added one more run in the third after Leschak hit a sacrifice fly, and two more runs in the fifth inning.
Freshman RHP Alex Almaguer earned the win for the Colts. The starter surrendered one hit and zero runs over seven innings, striking out four and walking one.
Cañada accumulated 14 hits in the game. Arce and Bittner were a force together in the lineup, as they each collected three hits for Cañada. Leschak provided pop in the middle of the order, and led the Colts with four runs batted in. The first baseman went 2-for-3 on the day. Freshman LF Kevin Sanchez and Patrick Sanchez each collected two hits a piece for the Colts while Arce and Bittner each stole two bases. The Cañada defense was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Leschak had the most chances with five.
