Payne's 6 RBI leads Colts in 17-4 win over Santa Barbara

So. C Ethan Payne drove in six runs on five hits to lead the Colts past the Vaqueros on Friday afternoon in the first of a 2 game series at Colt Field. Payne doubled in the third scoring two, doubled in the fourth scoring two, hit a solo home run to right field in the third scoring one, and doubled in the eighth scoring one.
Cañada struck first in the 1st inning after an error scored one run putting them on the board.
In the bottom of the third inning the Colts unleashed their bats scoring eight runs on seven hits taking the lead 9-1. Payne hit a solo home run to right field, So. 2B Chris Arce doubled, scoring two runs, So. 1B Dominic Avila singled, scoring one run, an error scored one run, Fr. DH Cole Leschak doubled, scoring one run, and Payne doubled, scoring two runs.
But, the Colts were not done. The offense went back to work hammering down on the Vaqueros as they scored another seven runs on six hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Avila doubled, scoring one run, So. SS Kyler Bittner singled, scoring one run, Leschak doubled, scoring two runs, Payne doubled, scoring two runs, and So. 3B Jacob Brewer doubled, scoring one run.
Fr. RHP Shawn Pagee earned his second win of the season for Cañada. The righty surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings, striking out six and walking two. Fr. LHP Victor Angulo and Fr. RHP Alex Almaguer each appeared in relief for Cañada pitching 2 innings a piece.
Cañada collected 18 hits in the game. Arce, Leschak, Avila, and Brewer each collected multiple hits for the Colts, while Fr. OF. Caden Cuccia paced Cañada with two walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, piling up seven total walks for the game. Cañada stole seven bases with Bittner and Cuccia leading the way. The Colts defense turned one double play in the game.
