The Skyline Men's Soccer team claimed the top position in the Coast Conference North Division after earning crucial points in two key games last week. Following a 2-1 away victory over second-place Hartnell College and a 1-1 tie against district rival and third-place Canada College on Tuesday at Skyline, the Trojans improved their record to 7-1-2 in the North Division, with three matches remaining in the regular season.
Skyline is ranked 3rd in the current Northern California power point playoff rating system and 10th in the latest CCCSIA California State rankings, with a probable move up after topping #7 Hartnell on the road.
Facing a tough Canada team the Trojans found themselves trailing early after conceding a goal in the 15th minute of play, but were able to find the equalizer in the 40th minute off a wild scramble following a corner kick. After the ball crossed the face of the goal and eluded the Canada goalkeeper, Enrico Ehret was able to guide a shot into the open net.
Against Hartnell, Skyline took the lead in the 60th minute when Sophomore Brendan Pineda scored his 3rd goal of the season off an assist from Subaru Thompson. The Trojans added to their lead in the 70th minute when Thompson tallied his second goal of the season with an assist from Enrico Ehret.
Skyline will head back out on the road for their next two matches as the face Ohlone College in Fremont on Friday November 8th at 6:30pm and Chabot College in Hayward on Tuesday, November 12th at 1:30pm.
